1. What are hours for accepting payments?

7:30 a.m to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.

2. Can I pay over the phone?

Yes, customers can call 591-7700, then press "2" to select the option for bill payment with Visa or MasterCard (credit or debit). You must have your Water Works account number and your credit card number in order to pay your bill over the phone. At this time, Customer Services Representatives cannot accept your payment over the phone. Payment may only be made through the electronic voice recording system.

3. Where are you located? Where can I pay my bill?

Water Works is at 4747 Spring Grove Avenue (Clifton and Spring Grove) in Winton Place. You can also pay your bill in the Treasurer's Office on the 2nd Floor of City Hall and Plum Streets.

4. When is my next meter reading date?

Please call 591-7700 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a Water Works representative can provide you with that information.

5. Why is my water off?

Please call 591-7700 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a Water Works representative can check for you.

7. Can I have more time to pay my bill?

Customers in good standing can have more time to pay their bills. If you let Water Works know that you will have difficulty paying before the bill is due, arrangements often can be made. In the case of tenants, the landlord's approval will be required. Please call 591-7700 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday to see if they can make an arrangement for you.

8. Will you accept the reading I find on my meter if I am not able to be home to let the meter reader in as scheduled?

Under many conditions, we will. Please call 591-7800 between 7:30 a.m. and Noon on the day of or the business day following the scheduled meter reading date.

9. Has my bill been mailed out yet and when is it due?

Please call 591-7700 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a Water Works representative can provide you with that information.

10. Can Water Works turn my water service on or off for repairs to be made to my house?

Yes, and at no charge to the property owner. Please call 591-7900 to make those arrangements.

11. Why is my water rusty?

Is it rusty when the hot and/or cold water is on? If just hot, the hot water tank may need to be checked. If cold, the problem may be due to work on the water mains or possible use of a nearby fire hydrant.

12. Who is responsible to pay for or make repairs on my water line?

The property owner is responsible for any repairs on the water line from the curb stop into the house, including the meter valves. Water Works is responsible for the water line from and including the curb stop to the water main.

13. Why is my water pressure low/high?

Please call 591-7900 and a Water Works representative will look into the situation.

14. Why has a fire hydrant been left running on my street?

To flush a water main to clear any rust or to regulate the amount of chlorine in the water in that area.

15. What information can you provide on home water treatment devices?

Water Works cannot provide information on specific home water treatment devices, but can provide general information on treatment processes such as softening. Please call 624-5600 to talk to a water quality treatment specialist. For further information about home treatment devices, contact the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791, the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-332-4010, the National Sanitation Foundation at 1-800-673-6375, or the American Water Works Association at 303-794-7711.

16. Is my water safe to drink?

Yes. To make sure that tap water is safe to drink, Environmental Protection Agency has regulations that limit the amount of certain substances that can be found in drinking water. The Water Works water has always been well within the Federal, State, and local regulations set to ensure the safety of tap water. If you have specific questions about water quality, please call 624-5600 to talk to a water quality treatment specialist.
